Aerodynamics in Action
Aerodynamics in Action is a STEM program that allows students to discover how aircraft can defy gravity and stay airborne.
Students will learn about the four forces of flight, Bernoulli's Principle, aerodynamics, the history of aviation, and how these elements contribute to our contemporary comprehension of flight.
This program is classroom-based, emphasizing the scientific method and hands-on experiential learning. As such, students will finish the program by applying their newfound expertise in aerodynamics to design and create their aircraft.
Posters & Propaganda (Lesson)
This program examines some tactics used in propaganda and advertising to help students identify bias. Students will learn about jumping on the bandwagon, emotional transfer, stacking the deck, name-calling, slogans, and more by analyzing historical Canadian posters and modern ads.
This program will also discuss why posters were such a popular medium for persuasion before the internet and how the tactics discussed appear in our everyday lives today.
Warriors of Old
In his book My People: The Bloods, Great War veteran Mike Mountain Horse wrote, “When duty called, we were there, and when we were called forth to fight for the cause of civilization, our people showed all the bravery of our warriors of old.”
This program explores some of these “warriors of old” who lived and fought before 1900 in the lands now called Canada. Students will learn about numbered treaties and land acknowledgements before diving into the battles and personalities that shaped and were shaped by this land.
This program will focus on the prairies, but examples from other regions will be included for contrast. Veterans discussed include Gabriel Dumont, Crowfoot and Poundmaker, Tecumseh, and more.

Shaping Our Nation will introduce concepts such as manifest destiny, impressment, the Two Canadas, and the Napoleonic Wars. This program will also reinforce the difference between primary and secondary
sources.
DIVISION 4
Grades 10+
Canada and The Great War
This program explores how Canada shaped and was shaped by the Great War. The war's effects permeated nearly every aspect of Canadian society, from battles like Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele to the first voting rights extended to Canadian women.
A particular emphasis will be placed on the nationalism outcomes explored by grade 11. In the board game, students will dive into the battles discussed in the presentation and see if they can rewrite history.
Canada and The Cold War
Did you know that the Cold War started in Canada? At least some scholars say so. For 40 years after the Second World War, Canada saw arctic defence campaigns, tragic aerial accidents, Soviet defections, and more.
Discover how espionage, nuclear panic, and proxy wars shaped Canada's identity and relationship with ideology.
Military Myth Building
This program explores the concept of national myths, including their origins, changes over time, uses, and abuses.
With Canadian and international examples, students will examine the battles of Vimy Ridge and Juno Beach as potential “origin myths” for Canadian national identity.
Finally, students will sort through various provided primary and secondary sources to argue that one of these battles means more to our national identity than the other.
